What to expect

From the first message to ongoing work.

Reaching out to a therapist is among the harder things people ask themselves to do. Here is what happens after you do, in plain terms.

  1. 01

    Reach out

Send a short note through the contact form or book a 20-minute consultation directly. There is no intake questionnaire to complete first. A few sentences about what is bringing you in is enough.

  2. 02

    Consultation call

We talk for 20 minutes. You ask anything you want to ask. We share how we work and who we tend to work well with. If we are not the right fit, we say so and offer a referral.

  3. 03

    First session

First sessions are 50 minutes. We do not run a structured intake. We start where you want to start, and we let the shape of the work emerge over the first three or four sessions.

  4. 04

    Ongoing work

Most clients work weekly for the first several months. The cadence often shifts to bi-weekly once the work has settled. There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions. We talk openly about how the work is going and when an ending is approaching.

A few things people often want to know.

Confidentiality

What is said in our rooms stays in our rooms, with the limits set by Ontario law. Those limits include imminent risk of serious harm to self or others, suspected child abuse, and a small set of mandatory reports. We talk through this in the first session.

Insurance and receipts

Most extended-health insurance plans in Ontario cover work with a Registered Psychotherapist (RP). We are not currently set up for direct billing. We provide a receipt after each session for you to submit to your insurer. We recommend confirming coverage with your provider before booking, since plan details vary.

Sliding scale

Sliding-scale openings are available with our practitioners in Qualifying status. We hold a small number of these openings at all times. If full-fee work is not accessible to you, please ask.

Cancellation

We ask for 24 hours of notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours of notice are charged in full. We make exceptions for genuine emergencies and illness.

Online sessions

We use a PHIPA-compliant secure video platform. Your link is sent before each session. Online and in-person sessions cost the same.
